I had very little expectations for our first event. I thought we may sell one thing if we're lucky or hopefully sell enough to cover the amount we paid to be a part of the flea market. I thought that it was going to be slow, and that people would be too cold to care about vintage clothing. I thought that, if anything, it would be good to get our name out there, but not expect people to engage with us. I thought people may not like what I bought for Frockify, or the prices, or the sizes I had available. I thought, I thought, I thought... I thought wrong.
We had the BEST day selling and hanging out at Bushwick Flea. We had so much fun! Everyone is awesome! We can't wait until we get to do this every weekend around the U.S.! AHHHHH.
Ok. Let's start from the beginning. It was on Saturday, October 24, 2015. It was about 50 degrees at 10 AM, with a high of 55 degrees that day. Brrrrrr. We set up, it looked super cute (just how I wanted it to, with a boutique vibe). We met some of the other vendors, who were all just so sweet. We were ready to go!
It was a slow start. People weren't awake yet.
About thirty minutes after the flea opened we finally got someone interested in our booth. She was a super cool young woman and was out shopping with her mom. They were actually looking for different kinds of flour for their pancakes they were about to make. She picked up one of my favorites pieces of all time, a 1960's mustard wool jacket with a rabbit fur collar. She loved it. She looked amazing in it. They were meant for each other. She was stoked we took credit. We took a photo of her in her new piece and she gave us permission to use her instagram name. She was awesome. When she was leaving I said in a joking tone, "We'll be here all day, if you want to bring us some pancakes!" You know what? They came back. With pancakes. And a jar of syrup. And utensils. I seriously started to tear up. OMG THEY WERE SO DELICIOUS. I will never forget her. Thank you, Bailey McAvenia!
As the day went on, more locals started waking up and the afternoon was a steady flow of traffic. We met a lot of new friends and had some people loving our items and purchasing. I almost couldn't believe it; I felt so humbled that people even took time to browse our frocks, let alone buying them. It just felt so great, and it was so much fun. I hope to always feel this way.
Overall, I am so completely pleased with how the day went. I wanted to connect with people in a more engaging way so they will hopefully go to the website and follow the brand, and we were able to make connections with some really awesome people. I was also very pleased with how our setup looked. We didn't really know how it was going to work until we got there and just hoped it would work. Everything from the racks, to the table, and our display boxes, all fit perfectly together.
I want to give a special shoutout to my good friends Kelley and Alexandra for coming to support!
I didn't want it to end, but it was getting cold and getting dark. We packed everything up in the car and felt overwhelmingly happy.
Our next event is Saturday, November 7th at Artists & Fleas. See our schedule of events here: POP-UP SHOP EVENTS
